Epic Pass in Switzerland: Lift Access Isn't the Whole Cost of the Trip

Planning a Swiss ski trip with an Epic Pass? The advertised access can be valuable, but the pass rules are not the same for every product, and there are extra steps and optional expenses that are easy to miss when looking only at a resort list.

TWO SWISS RESORTS, DIFFERENT PASS ALLOWANCES

According to Epic Pass' published terms, the full Epic Pass provides unlimited, unrestricted lift access at Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis and Crans-Montana. Epic Local includes five days at each. Eligible Epic Day Pass holders with All Resorts Access can use their purchased days at the two resorts, with possible peak-date restrictions. Other pass categories have different limits. Read the terms of the actual pass you hold.

THE TRAIN IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY INCLUDED

For the 2026/27 winter, Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis says the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn train connecting its ski areas is an optional upgrade purchased when collecting the resort access card. Vail lists CHF 50 for up to seven consecutive days or CHF 150 for the entire 2026/27 season. A cheaper pass on paper may not reflect the final cost for the way you intend to travel between areas.

GETTING THROUGH THE TICKET WINDOW

The resort says eligible passholders must bring proof of a valid pass and photo ID and obtain a local access card. A refundable CHF 5 card deposit applies. At Crans-Montana, the My Epic mobile pass cannot be used directly as the lift ticket; it can serve as proof of eligibility for obtaining local lift media.

FRIEND TICKETS AND OTHER BENEFITS AREN'T UNIVERSAL

Epic's Swiss resort FAQs state that Epic Friend Tickets cannot be used at either Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis or Crans-Montana, and that normal Epic Mountain Rewards do not apply at Crans-Montana. European partner resorts may have different limits and lodging requirements.

This isn't evidence that every Epic Pass is bad value. It is a reminder that a giant connected resort network can have a patchwork of exceptions. Before booking flights, trains, accommodation, or other nonrefundable travel, check your specific pass, the actual dates, the access-card process, and what extras are charged.
