Epic Pass Sales Are Down 12% as Vail Resorts Enters Another Difficult Season

Vail Resorts is heading into the 2026-27 season with another warning sign: pass product unit sales were down about 12% through September 18 compared with the same point last year.

Recent reporting based on the company’s fiscal 2026 results says estimated ski days sold were down about 10% and pass sales dollars were down roughly 6%. The company also reported fiscal 2026 net income of $147.5 million, down from $280 million a year earlier, while Resort Reported EBITDA fell from $844.1 million to $745.7 million.

Vail has pointed to unusually difficult weather during the prior winter as a major factor in weaker demand, particularly in Western markets. That explanation may be valid, but the continuing decline also raises questions about how much of the slowdown is weather-related and how much reflects changing skier sentiment about price, access, crowding and the Epic model.

For skiers, the important point is that Vail is entering the new season with fewer pass products sold than it had at the same point a year ago.
