Perisher Ends a Challenging 2026 Australian Season After 112 Days
Perisher, the Australian resort owned by Vail Resorts, closed its 2026 winter season on September 25 after 112 days of operation.
Perisher’s own season wrap described the winter as challenging and said it was not quite the season the resort had planned.
The resort reported operating as many as 41 lifts at the season’s peak and said its teams used snowmaking, grooming and other mountain-operations work to keep the most terrain open in Australia during difficult natural conditions.
Earlier in September, Perisher had warned that warmer temperatures were forcing the season toward an end despite fresh snow and more than 16 hours of snowmaking during one late cold period.
For Vail Resorts, Australia provides a useful counterpoint to the weather problems that hurt its North American business. Geographic diversification can spread weather risk, but it cannot eliminate it when individual regions experience difficult seasons.
For skiers, the practical question is always the same: how much terrain and value did the resort actually deliver under the conditions it received?
