Tahoe Was Hit Hard: Vail Says Visitation Fell 13.4% Companywide After a Brutal Snow Year

Vail Resorts’ latest financial results show just how damaging the 2025-26 winter was across its western portfolio.

The company reported that total visitation fell 13.4% for fiscal 2026 and specifically pointed to severe weather impacts in the Rockies and Tahoe.

Resort net revenue fell by $131.9 million, or 4.5%, while net income attributable to Vail Resorts dropped from $280 million to $147.5 million.

For Tahoe skiers, those numbers help explain why resorts such as Northstar, Heavenly and Kirkwood are entering the new season under pressure to deliver a stronger experience after an unusually difficult year.

Weather was clearly a major factor. But lower pass sales for the coming season show that Vail still has work to do beyond simply hoping for more snow.
