Vail Mountain News: Park City Lift Upgrades and 2026/27 Colorado Opening Dates

The 2026/27 ski season is taking shape across Vail Resorts' western mountains, with new lift investments at Park City and published opening targets in Colorado. Here is what is currently confirmed.

Park City: more lift investment is coming

Vail Resorts announced September 28 that Park City Mountain is slated to receive major lift upgrades for winter 2027/28. The plan includes replacing Silverlode with an eight-passenger detachable chair, replacing Eagle and Eaglet with a six-passenger detachable chair, and retrofitting Crescent. Vail says it will have invested more than $200 million at Park City through 2026, before these additional projects.

For 2026/27, the resort is also highlighting the new 10-person Canyons Village Skyway Gondola, a new parking garage at Canyons Village, and the Sunrise Gondola that opened for 2025/26.

Colorado opening targets

Current opening targets reported for Vail-owned Colorado resorts include Breckenridge on November 6, Vail Mountain on November 13, Beaver Creek on November 25 and Crested Butte on November 25. Opening dates remain weather- and snowmaking-dependent.

Pass sales are entering the season weaker

At the corporate level, Vail reported that advance pass product units for the upcoming North American season were down about 12% through September 18 compared with the prior year. Vail attributed much of that weakness to memories of last season's historically poor conditions and said some less-committed destination skiers may simply be delaying purchases.

What to watch

The operational question for this winter is whether improved weather, new infrastructure and Vail's broader Epic Experience push translate into better guest sentiment at individual mountains. We will continue tracking mountain-level changes separately from corporate announcements.
